You can read the letter below.
)
Your Honor, Mr. Chairman. Mehmeti and members of the Independent Media Commission,
On behalf of protecting the rights of participants and promoting ethical standards in television content, we, the Kosovo Women's Network, are addressing us to express our deep concern about a recent situation in the Big Brother programme. V IP, broadcast by Klan Kosova.
One of the participants of this programme is surviving domestic violence and has made public condemnation of its case. Despite this indictment, however, her former husband has entered Big Brother's house, putting her in a situation where she must live 24/7 near the person who has been violent her. Klan Kosovo's decision to allow such a confrontation in this media format creates a dangerous precedent for human rights and promotes violence as a show form, which is an unacceptable, harmful and punishable practice in any society.
The Independent Commission for Media has the right to stop broadcasting a show immediately if it estimates it poses a danger to public safety, morals, public order, or to the protection of other people's rights.
This situation is deeply disturbing, for it exposes survivors to an uncertain situation and can lead to further trauma, carrying a dangerous message to the public and normalizing violence in intimate and family relations. In patriarchal societies like ours, where violence is often viewed as a private matter, this development only reinforces this perception.
Taking into account the importance of human rights and the right to a safe environment for each participant, we demand that the Independent Media Commission immediately terminate the broadcast of the Big Brother. V IP Kosova until the person accused of domestic violence leaves this TV format. Respecting the ethical code is essential to ensure that television programmes in Kosovo provide responsible content that respects the rights and welfare of individuals, in particular the survivors of violence.
In conclusion, we stress that survivors of violence deserve continued protection and support. We believe that protecting their rights and promoting responsible content are benefits for all society beyond the logic of profit. We expect the Independent Media Commission to take steps to seriously review this case and oversee the respect of professional ethics in this programme and in any other television content, especially in cases involving violence.
This program constantly promotes examples of violence, sexual harassment, and extreme sexting and homophobic dyss ' distribution, negatively affecting society and strengthening harmful stereotypes. After the person's departure in question, it is essential that this form of television be carefully monitored and revised in line with ethical standards to ensure that the content offered is educational and respectful to all groups of society.
We hope that this request will be handled urgently by you.
