Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, said late Sunday that he spoke on the phone with US President-elect Donald Trump.
“I just finished a conversation with newly elected American President Donald Trump. The conversation was excellent, with content, and I would say very kind”, Vuciq said in the Instagram.
Vuciq was among the first world leaders to congratulate Trump for victory. The Serbian president even congratulated him on his return to the White House without becoming officially aware that the former president had won early on November 5th.
During the years the US administration has been led by Democrat President Joe Biden, Serbia and its political leaders have continued to maintain close relations with the former American envoy for dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina during former President Donald Trump's administration, Richard Green.
Serbia's president handed him a state decoration in October 2023, and on that occasion praised that Grenelli's role in dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina “not only has contributed to regional peace and stability, but also played a key role in strengthening ties between the US and Serbia”.
Green is still active in Trump presidential campaign.
Meanwhile, Trump's groom, Jared Kouchner, has invested in the former General Staff building in Belgrade.
Serbia has signed a contract with Kouchner's firm for “revising” of the General Staff complex in downtown Belgrade, which was partially destroyed during the 1999 NATO bombing.
At the site of the ruins from the bombing, construction of two high apartment buildings and hotels, though built between 1955 and 1965, has not been removed as cultural property.
Many Balkan observers have seen the agreement with Kouchner as Serbia's preparation for the possible return of Trump to the White House.
Also, during the first administration of Trump, Kosovo and Serbia have reached an agreement on normalising economic relations, but most of its points have not been implemented.
There have also been officials in that administration who have talked about the exchange of territories between Kosovo and Serbia as the possibility of resolving differences between them, but also of withdrawing American troops from Kosovo.
