It has called on Serbian authorities to explain to the public “how the searches of settlements have been conducted that have resulted in the avoidance of addresses, and if the south of Serbia has been especially targeted”.
Serbia's Constitutional Court has recently dismissed the complaint by an Albanian resident from Medvedja for returning his address.
“We have received information about the concerns about having the addresses of members of the Albanian community in Serbia. We are following these developments in the spirit of obligations Serbia has made under membership negotiations, especially those dealing with minority rights”, Pisonero has said.
Meanwhile, it has not answered whether this issue could be part of the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.
Kosovo Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi has said on November 20th that Serbia's Constitutional decision for Medvedja resident violates basic human rights. It has stressed that its decision legitimises the discriminatory practice of assimilating addresses to Albanians.
And the country's president, Vjosa Osmani, has on Thursday called for the international community to pressure Serbia to respect Albanian rights.
Well, the question of passive display of addresses was also mentioned in Serbia's Progress Report. /Koha.net/
