With HIMARS, the Armed Forces are getting a new skill they didn't have before. It's about the capabilities of the exact and effective long-range missile action”, said Tihomir Kundid, Chief of General Staff of Armed Forces.
“is undoubtedly presenting a quantum jump under the ability of the Croatian Armed Forces in the implementation of long-range and precise missile strikes, he noted, represents a new era in artillery missile units, such as the system is the most precise and effective in relation to other” systems, he noted. Croatian Defence Minister Ivan Anuspi explained that the package includes eight HIMARS rocket launchers and 394 rockets, as well as other goods, services, training and logistical support needed for the efficient functioning of the system. The system will be delivered in 2028 and the missiles will come with it, the minister said.
HIMARS is an extremely mobile artillery system. The system, developed in the late 1990s, includes a truck, a control system and a missile. It was created as a more modern, easier and more efficient version of the M270 MLRS tracking missile system.
HIMARS may have a pre-arranged capsule with six rockets driven with a 227 mm calibre. or a large capsule loaded with ATACMS tactical missile that has a 300-mile radius of action. A small team of three can remove the used capsule and load a new one within minutes without the help of other means.
Buying such a system will change balance in the region, where no one has HIMARS. In Europe, according to available information, it is only Poland, Romania and Ukraine, while Italy, Latvia and Estonia are in the process of equipment with it.
HIMARS is expected to significantly boost the firepower of the Croatian Land Army and will be a powerful prevention tool.
