Four years since the arrest of former KLA leaders, MPs believe in justice “even though the process has been compiled”

MPs express optimism that the Special Court will declare them innocent.

Vetevendosje Movement MP Enver Dugolli has declared he believes in justice and that the four KLA leaders will exit this innocent court.

According to him, the KLA war has been clean, a liberation war, and not an occupational war towards Serbia.

“We believe and hope that they will prove innocent, the KLA war has been a liberation war and the cleanest of a voluntary and liberation army, so we believe that the KLA war that has been proven to be clean and pure in reality we think even the leaders of the NLA are finally facing this judicial process will prove innocent and gain their freedom which is now four years, a very long period of time which certainly hits their families. We believe in justice and should always believe in it, so we hope they will prove innocent”, Dugolli said of EO.

On the other hand, Dugolli has stressed that, in addition to war crimes claims by the KLA, an indictment of Serbia's crimes against Kosovo should be opened.

“If we compare the charge or prosecution claims that they're only being held there and do an analysis of what has been taken so far against the crimes Serbia has committed to Albanians, to the civilian population of innocent people and make a comparison of what has been done to shed light in the darkness. It turns out that balance is extremely negative to Albanians because Albanians have fought liberation wars and haven't fought occupational warfare, and in this respect I can say that justice has broken and is running. Because if an investigation or a charge should be opened against Albanians at least 10 would have to be done against Serbia, who have exercised terror and genocide against the civilian population. I believe a lot in justice and I will triumph and be released and declared innocent”, he stressed.

Democratic Party of Kosovo MP Hisen Berisha for Online Economy has declared he believes justice is in the KLA's favour.

Berisha has said that since the beginning of this court there has been no basis for raising the charges.

I am a fanatic of the belief that we believe in justice and believe justice will be established and that it will be in favour of the values of the Kosovo Liberation Army through its leaders today who remain in The Hague. Since the beginning of this court, it has proved that there was no basis for raising the charges based on the document that has caused its formation, which is Dick Marty's report adopted to the Council of Europe. Enlarging the investigative period until December 2000 is a violation and an unfair act that has been passed to the polls even in this legislature of this majority because the KLA has carried out its mission in June 1999 and has been disbanded through a process then”, Berisha has declared.

As for the further continuation of this court, Berisha reaffirmed that another direction has been taken, not of establishing justice, but of making politics.

“The continuation of this court and its operation further with the lead in investigating witnesses and others who from the first prosecutor and others have testified that this court has taken a different direction, not to establish justice, but to make politics in relation to values that stand on the foundations of youth, independence, state and Kosovo institutions -- that is, its functionality. And that always goes against the opinions of the International Court of Justice for Law in Kosovo and the compatibility of international law with the declaration of independence”, Berisha has said.

According to him, all witnesses have been exposed to present KLA as a criminal enterprise.

“Have exposed all prosecution witnesses under their claim of crimes that have been banal levels, claiming that in the name of the effect on war periods, they present the KLA as a joint criminal enterprise, allegedly committed and the most secular work of organ trafficking and others. Something that does not have the impossible meaning of an army born from the people and from the violence and pressure of the Milosevic regime. I believe in justice and this four-year-old will not go away based on political developments in the US and on the coming to power of parties protecting conservative values and people fighting for freedom and protection of their national identity”, Berisha concluded.

KLA leaders Hashim Thaci, Kadri Veselini, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi are in custody in The Hague since November 2020.
