Palestinian health officials reported that at least 13 people were killed in two Israeli Army attacks in Gaza.
The Gaza Health Ministry, which is controlled by Hamas, said one of the attacks hit a school that served as a shelter centre in the Tufah neighbourhood, east of the town, where at least 6 people were killed. Authorities announced that another attack on a camp in the southern town of Khan Yunis also left them dead.
The Israeli Army said the attacks targeted a militant group of Palestinian Islamist Gihad.
Also on Saturday, Israel announced its first humanitarian shipment to northern Gaza, since the new military campaign began in the area last month. The announcement comes days before a deadline set by the United States, under which Israel is asked to improve the distribution of humanitarian aid throughout Gaza.
Experts have warned that it is most likely that some parts of northern Gaza will soon face hunger.
Israel's new offensive is focused on the Jabaliya refugee camp, where Israel says Hamas has been regrouped. The offensive is also lying in the Bay Lahiya and Bay Hanoun regions north of Gaza City.
According to the United Nations Organization, there are tens of thousands of people in these areas. Early this week, the Health Ministry said that currently in the north of the city, neither ambulances nor emergency teams operate.
Since the Israeli-Haams war began, the Israeli army has hit several schools and camps, filled with tens of thousands of Palestinians who have fled their homes as a result of Israeli attacks or evacuation orders. According to the UN, 90 per cent of Palestinians in Gaza have moved as a result of the conflict.
The military has repeatedly accused Hamas of operating from within the civilian infrastructure in Gaza, including schools, UN facilities and hospitals.
Israel's fight against Hamas in Gaza has caused more than 43,000 deaths, Palestinian health officials say. In this record they do not differentiate between civilians and warriors, but say more than half of those killed were women and children. The war began after Palestinian militants attacked Israel on October 7, 2023. According to Israeli authorities, during the attack militants killed about 1,200 people and kidnapped 250 others. / VOA
