Women constantly complain that they're sick: sometimes my back hurts, then my head hurts, and when there's no such complaints, then let me alone, I'm depressed. While men shut up and die first. That's partly because they crash into a car, they fall dead from a heart attack, their heart beats faster, or they die in complete silence, or eventually many of the corons died too.

These statements sound like a conversation for the true “men” behind the fourth beer. Such bad prejudices can be heard worldwide. But this is also the conclusion of a major scientific study published in the prestigious medical journal Lancet Public Health, based on the 20 most common diseases and causes of death in all ages and regions of the world. The reasons for this, however, are far more complex than imagined.

The distinction between healthy genders is evident in adolescence. It is the age not only when the biological differences between genders become evident but also when the sense of gender belonging despite the biological gender begins to affect life. It's not just the biological body you were born with. It's also the sense of gender in the environment that causes differences”, explains Professor Sarah Hawkes of University College London.

Doctors Are also Sexist

The causes are numerous and are not just because of the psychological differences, or social customs. Even doctors are not innocent. We know there is already a prejudice in doctors' diagnosis, where women will be diagnosed with a mental disorder much faster”, says one of the authors of the study, Luisa Sorio Flori of the American Institute for Health Rating.

At the same time, even if they complain about mental disorders, men will be less likely to be sent for therapy, in part because of the preconception that “men” do not need it. Statistics thus show a greater number of women who suffer from mental disorders.

“Pain on lower back” As pain is often called on the turbal part of the spine, it is a little harder to explain. The physical stress, which is easily caused by pregnancy and birth, certainly plays a role here.

But there are other studies that prove that doctors also make mistakes when it comes to back pain. The study says that both male and female doctors do so, even though more detailed research has shown that the backbone of women is in far worse shape than men, who are more likely to be sent for therapy. The authors of this research believe that women themselves do not seek medical assistance in this case because they are very busy with their job, or with household maintenance and family care.

Women's disease” is not that important

Sorio Flor and other scientists compared research data from 1990 to 2021 found something interesting: “in certain categories may be less likely to be observed, but the ratio between men and women remains stable”. And in the case of the typical “women's chances”back pain and depression, the difference is very small.

London professor thinks that sexism exists throughout the health care system: “I think there is a tendency in health care to equate women's health with the ability to reproduce. In the same way, a woman's health focuses mainly on the” uterus, Hawkes believes.

Researchers who have published the work suggest that they will try to get more quality and more data, but their growing problem is political accuracy. That is, more and more often in the diagnosis, the gender of the patient is not marked at all, especially not gender orientation. This was also seen at the time of COVID-19: If there was better information on patients ' gender, some better therapy might be drawn from this.

For Sorio Flor, this study initially showed a banal fact: our “results are quite clear. The health needs of men and women are simply different”. This should also be a lesson for state health care systems: for men's malady “ ” as a heart attack, there are miracles in all hospitals and there is always money for real spatial technology. But for the disease of “gries”, even when it is mental health, regular savings are made and expenses are cut.
