Scientists from the University of Southern California have already announced the factors of vascular risk that lead to brain damage resulting in cognitive damage.
New data collected by some 1,600 patients showed that alcohol consumption and diabetes are linked to a reduction in brain volume.
In addition, smoking and obesity have a greater impact on lowering the volume of parts that have the most important role in memory.
Decreasing the volume of these brain parts may be an early indicator of cognitive skills, researchers stressed.
