Miroslav Lajcak, the European Union's emissary for Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, has held a series of meetings this week for preparations for the summit between Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, to be held on 14 September in Brussels.
Lajcak himself has told about the meetings he held in the weekly review that publishes every Sunday.
The Kurti Vuciq meeting is the first since there has been tension in northern Kosovo's north following the April local elections in four northern municipalities, which were boycotted by the Serbian List and won by four Albanian candidates.
Lajcak has repeatedly said that the full de-passes into northern Kosovo are priorities in his agenda.
“Looking back next week, it has been filled with preparation work for the upcoming Summit of Higher Dialogue. I started in Brussels, where I met with co-lighters of the European Parliament of the Parliament of Parliamentary Dialogue Process with the National Assembly of Serbia, European Parliament MP Matja~ Nemec and former European Parliament President Knut Flekenstein. Later Tuesday, I met with NATO's KFOR commander, Major General Riztuccia. It was good to exchange notes on developments in the field and share our assessments of possible sources of tensions in the future. I am grateful for KFOR's vital work in building a safe environment in Kosovo”, Lajcak has said.
He has also spoken of the meeting, which was loyal to Bessim, Kosovo's deputy prime minister.
On Wednesday, I welcomed Kosovo Deputy Prime Minister and chief negotiator Besnik Bislim in Brussels. We discussed how to advance normal relations. I also met with Arthur Lorkowski Energy Community Director to explore possible fields of co-operation and talk about energy as part of Dialogue. With its unique expertise, the Energy Community contributed to the Energy Guide, which we approved in June of last year”.
” later in the week, I traveled to Berlin where I had important discussions in the German Federal Foreign Ministry and Chancellorship. I met with German Chancellor Jens Plötner's Foreign Ministry Political Director and Chief Council of Foreign Policy and Security. We focused on the current situation and potential irritability in the Dialog, shared our expectations for the Summit, and drafted a strategy for the road forward. Germany's strong devotion and support continue to be invaluable”.
After my return to Brussels on Thursday evening, I was still able to meet with my friend, Lord Peach, an envoy of the Western Balkans. We've exchanged thoughts about recent developments in the region. Lord Peach's assessment of the security situation as an experienced expert in that field is always valued. Preparations for the September 14th Summit of High-level Dialogue are at full speed and we are working towards positive results”, Lajcak wrote on Facebook.
