Private Sector Workers' Union Chairman Yusuf Azemi has sought to increase the number of inspectors monitoring construction companies, following increased workers' deaths in the country, reports Online Economy. Anemia for Online Economy has said that the safety of workers in the country is disturbing, as more than 80 percent of companies do not respect the law on safety and health equipment at work.
The chairman of this union stressed that the issue of private sector workers is also the past government, as it has not been dealt with enough with this sector.
The “Kosovo private sector workers, and in particular the security issue part of the blame, are the earlier governments because we have always been active and have asked them to take this matter more seriously. What are the steps that need to be taken, first we've lost the step and in the first place I think the number of inspectors will be much bigger. At the moment when it is observed that in a company that does not have adequate protection measures as the law says, that company must immediately close and until it does not sanction issues related to the law it should close”, Azem said. We are aware that some 80 percent of companies do not respect safety and health equipment at work. Often, they're forcing workers and workers to keep equipment. But the law says at the moment when the worker will not put it into his body equipped for protection he must go home that is not happening”, he said. Azem has said that the number of 34 inspectors currently is impossible to inspect over 600,000 construction companies in Kosovo.
According to him, the number of inspectors should be 250 for proper monitoring. We need to be aware that with this number of inspectors at the moment active somewhere 33 or 34, there is a number that even if they do work in the divine way, they can't be able to carry out their obligations to the organ. It can't because if you're visiting 60 thousand companies with 34 inspectors who need to monitor the labour law, collective agreement, labour health insurance law and seven or eight other laws with 34 inspectors that's like getting a spoon of water at sea. I think that to monitor this minimum job inspectorate at 200-250 inspectors will never be able to carry out the task that must be carried out”, he told EO
According to statistics from the Private Sector Workers Union, in the first seven months of this year's workplace, 18 people have died, most of which occurred in the construction sector, according to them these are the highest figures recorded in a seven-month period. / EO/
