Spanish police and customs have announced on Friday that they have seized 9.5 tonnes of cocaine from Ecuador, and believed to be the largest in the country's history.
Drugs were seized at the port of Algecira in southern Spain and constituted the largest hidden shipment of cocaine to Spain to date, writes Euronews, broadcast Klankosova.tv.
Cocaine was hidden in a banana box in a container.
This operation represents a “unprecedented blow to one of the world's most important criminal organisations, involved in the distribution of cocaine, which was destined for major criminal networks in Europe”, says the press release, but this organisation remains unknown to the fact that the announcement was released without identifying the organisation.
Logos of more than 30 European criminal organisations were discovered in the shipment. Many of the packages were modeled at “Hitler”, similar to a cocaine shipment seized in Peru on the way to Belgium in May of this year.
At the time, authorities said they were investigating whether the shipment had any connections with European neo-Nazi groups, but it was also possible that the labels would be used simply as codes to show special recipients.
