Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvin called it in a statement “a man and a large Italian”.
Defence Minister Guido Crosetto wrote that Berlusconi's death is the end of an era.
I loved it. Goodbye Silvio”, he wrote.
Mr. Berlusconi, who served as prime minister during 1994-1995, 2001-2006 and 2008-2011, suffered from leukemia and had recently had a lung infection.
Silvio Berlusconi's Italian Forza party is part of Prime Minister Giorgia Melon's right-wing coalition, and although he himself did not have a role in the government, his death is likely to destabilise Italian politics in the coming months.
His friendship with Russian President Vladimir Putin put him in the opposite position with Prime Minister Melon, a staunch supporter of Ukraine.
His business empire also faces an uncertain future. He never publicly indicated who would take full responsibility for the business after his death, even though his big daughter Marina. It is expected to play an important role.
