June 21st is also known as the date of summer solstice. This is an astronomical event during which the planet's northern hemisphere is nearer to the sun.
This leads to this date, the day being the longest of the year and the shorter night. This day also marks the arrival of the summer season. This day has given mankind reason to celebrate from the time of antiquity through various rituals. Currently, this day serves as a reminder that the summer season came and we can begin planning on what we intend to do in this season. Despite that, there are still some states that celebrate this day by preserving some of the early traditions.
So, for example, in Sweden, where this day is even official rest, people gather to perform traditional dances and various games while celebrating with their families. In Alaska, which because of its geographic position, has a period of 24 hours under the influence of sunlight, residents gather to watch baseball at midnight.
And in Barcelona, people gather around a large fire and hold various celebrations with society and family. Meanwhile, in England people gather on the Stonehenge monument to see the rising of the sun - a tradition inherited from ancient times. /Perisopi/
