American and Canadian teams are continuing to save the five people aboard the submarine.

The remains of the Titanic are located some 435 miles [435 km] south of St John's, Newfoundland, and the search for salvation mission is being deemed extremely difficult.

Who are the people aboard the submarine?

  • Hamish Harding, a 58-year-old British explorer and businessman who is the head of the Aeroplane Action Company.
  • Pakistani billionaire businessman Shahzada Dawood, and his son Suleman
  • It has been widely reported that Stockton Rush, CEO of OceanGate the company that organised the mission, is also on board.
  • The 73-year-old French explorer Paul-Henry Nargeolet is also thought to be on board, according to a Facebook post by Harding before the beginning of the dive.

According to submarine experts, there are 70-96 hours of oxygen left, starting at 5: 00 p.m. local Monday.

From preliminary records, the submarine appears to have suffered a defect and ended up at the bottom of the ocean.
