German prestigious journalist: In his stubbornness, Albin Kurti is doing harm to his country

Policy editor in the German newspaper “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”, Reinhard Vesher, has published an analysis in this paper on the current situation in Kosovo, where it says Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti is damaging his country. “Albin Kurti has for now rejected Western support for Kosovo. “Albin Kurti has for the time being rejected Western support for Kosovo. He failed to understand the importance of calm in the Balkans for the West in the face of Russia's attack on Ukraine”, he writes.

He says Prime Minister Kurti has a long history of confrontation with his country's Western allies.

It once led protests against the UN mission in Kosovo and against the UN peace plan for the conflict with Serbia. From the beginning, he also rejected agreements with which the EU wanted to normalise relations between Serbia and its former province ten years ago. So he's consistent in sabotaging their implementation as head of government. If you love Kurt, you can call that an attitude of justice. In reality, however, it is a stubbornness with which he is damaging his country possibly forever”.

The “Kurti has used US and EU support for Kosovo at the moment as a gambler. Brussels and Washington now see Kosovo as problematic in the Balkans, not Serbia. And this despite the fact that Belgrade has not changed the stand that has always hampered the conflict settlement. Apparently Kurt did not understand how important calm is in the Balkans for the West in the face of the war of Russian aggression in Ukraine. The cynical politician of power Aleksandar Vuciq is of another calibre in Belgrade. He runs pro-Russian propaganda for domestic use and supplies Ukraine with weapons”.

Reinhard Vesher from 1998 works in FAZ and deals with the topics of Eastern Europe.
