Borrell: I will invite Kosovo, Serbia to emergency meeting in Brussels next week

European Union for Foreign Policy High Representative Josep Borrell has called the arrest of three Kosovo police officers by Serb forces within Kosovo's territory Wednesday. He has announced that he will invite Kosovo and Serbia to an emergency meeting next week in Brussels. “E know that [...]

“E know there has been an incident there over the arrest of three police officials from Kosovo, and we are trying to understand exactly what happened. We are in close contact with KFOR commander and both sides so that we can see what has really happened that has led to this arrest”, he has told reporters before the start of the EU interior ministers' meeting with NATO, the AP reports.

Borrell has announced that he will now invite the two states to the meeting.

In the meantime, we need to call for calm on the ground and, given the deteriorating situation every day, we're in a crisis management mode. I will invite both sides -- Kosovo and Serbia -- to a meeting for crisis management here in Brussels next week”, he has declared.

The three Kosovo police officers, according to the official announcement of Kosovo authorities, have been kidnapped within the country's territory by Serb forces. According to the Police's announcement, police were patrolling at the site called Tresave/Bare, on the borderline in northern Kosovo, the moment they are said to have been kidnapped by Serb forces. State leaders have named it an act of aggression and have called for international reaction.

Serbia's authorities have said Wednesday that “have arrested three police officers fully armed inside Serbia's” territory.

Since the end of May, Kosovo's north has been conveyed with tensions as local Serbs began protests against the entry of new Leposaviqi, Zubin-Potok and Zvecan mayors into municipal facilities. The first - day protest was violent. Violence afflicted 30 KFOR soldiers and several Kosovo police officers.

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has offered a five-point approval proposal. He has said that everything must be initiated by “the adoption of the law”, for attracting criminal groups and reducing the number of members of the Special Unit.
