A New York street from 3 June will bear the name of Ismail Kemal

The appointment of a street on behalf of Ismail Kemal in New York is not only an honour for his historical figure, but also marks an important step for the Albanian community in the big American city.
Albanians are one of the most important and older diaspora communities in New York, and the appointment of a street by the name of an Albanian national hero reinforces their identity and accession to this city.
The chairman of the Albanian-American Association in Staten Island, Naser Nika, and businessman Qorray, the son of the Qorray Witness Mustaf from the Drenica Forest, are in constant effort to realise one of the most important achievements for the Albanian community in New York.
As they have made known about Dukagjin, they are intensively engaged to appoint the first route to Staten Island in honor of an Albanian hero, thus making it an unusual and historic event.
At an exciting ceremony that will take place on June 3rd 2023, the Albanian community in Staten Island, New York, will celebrate the historic moment of the <x0silsmail Kemalin”.
The ceremony will take place at Miller Field, a well-known Board Walk Park park located across Seaview Street. Ave and Father Capedano Blvd, Staten Island.
The activities of the ceremony will be numerous and will satisfy those present with a festive atmosphere.
Albanian music will be heard in high tones, recitals will describe the history and contribution of Ismail Kemal, while traditional dances will give an authentic spirit to this event.
The Albanian community on all sides will meet to celebrate this important moment and express pride and love for their cultural heritage.
The “Ismail Cemali” will be a permanent reminder of his contribution to Albania's history and will serve as a sign of unity and co-operation between the Albanian and American communities.
Ismail Kemal was born in 1844 in Vlora and became the main figure of the movement for independence at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1912, he declared Albania's independence and became the first president of the independent Albanian state.
