In order to examine and register wild warehouses, the Agency for Protection of the Environment of Kosovo, during 2022 with the participation of representatives of municipalities and officials of regional companies, has conducted the identity and registration of wild warehouses in 38 municipalities in Kosovo.
“The deposit registration is made due to two characteristics: the size and composition of waste. The storehouses are classified in three categories - large, medium, and small storehouses. While, according to the waste composition, deposits are classified in: (a) municipal waste dumps; (b) building waste dumps and collapse; (c) dangerous waste dumps; (d) waste dumps; and (e) other waste deposits. In this process in 38 municipalities there are a total of 763 wild warehouses of different sizes, where they dominate the category of small warehouses with a total of 270, while according to the compositions dominate the category appointed by 40%. The largest number of wild warehouses, with a total of 187, has been registered in the Prizren region. In the Gjakova region, however, the smallest number of warehouses with a total of 30 warehouses has been registered. Meanwhile, according to municipalities, the largest number of wild warehouses have been registered in the Lipjan municipality with a total of 88 warehouses, led by the Malisheva municipality with 84 warehouses, while no wild warehouses have been registered in the municipality of the Year and Yunik. It should be noted that year after year there is a marked progress in cleaning wild warehouses, and we also see fewer and fewer new warehouses being created. The increased commitment of waste management municipalities and companies has contributed to this progress, but increased civic awareness of the importance of conservation. Thus, compared to the 1184 wild warehouses registered in May 2021, in the recent regime carried out in June 2022, the number of wild warehouses has marked a 426 drop, so 763 registered and registered total wild warehouses at the country's” level, the Kosovo Environment Protection Agency is said to have announced.
