Kosovo's “Police on the basis of their authorization has taken all measures in terms of security. We as police have established regular police officials who will deal more with traffic issues than we expect to have any tension on this inauguration... civil official in and around the facility. There's no rising measures. All measures have been undertaken as elsewhere”, he has declared.
The new chairman of northern Mitrovica, Erden Attic, will be sworn in on May 19th in this municipality's building, which will officially launch his mandate as chairman.
In the extraordinary local elections held on April 23rd this year, the candidate from the ruling party, the Vetevendosje Movement, won about 550 votes -- 66 per cent of the total vote, respectively.
The elections in four municipalities in northern Kosovo, northern Mitrovica, Zvecan, Leposaviq and Zubin Potok -- all inhabited by Serb majority -- were held following the resignations of the Serbian List chairmans.
Such a move came after the Government of the Republic of Kosovo made the decision to convert plates into “RKS”
Turnout in the extraordinary local elections was 3.47 percent of the election body. The same were largely boycotted by members of the Serb community.
