PDK says government is putting pressure on its mayors in the north for oath procedure

Official PDK, Betim Yoshi, charged MAPL is putting pressure on the mayors of northern municipalities from this party. “Minister of Local Power and officials of this ministry have consistently exerted pressure on changing the date and location for holding sessions”, he said. Applications for changing dates and places for holding sessions, [...]

Betim Joshi of the PDK said the leaders from this party that have won in Zvecan and Zubin Potok are facing “pressure and humiliation by government officials and segments, especially from the MAPL”.

The two mayors of the municipalities from the PDK ranks, who have won in Zvecan and Zubin Potok, have been facing pressure and humiliation by government officials and segments, especially from MAPL. Both municipalities have called solemn sworn-in sessions, but, the Minister of Local Power and Ministers of the Ministry, have repeatedly exerted pressure on changing the date and location of the hearings”, Joes wrote on Facebook yesterday.

MAPL's requests for changing date and location have confirmed Izmir Zeqiri, the candidate The PDK that came out victorious in Zubin Potok.

He told Express that they are in the process of preparation.

We have some... I don't mean disagreements. We're in the process of preparation. We had disagreements about the agenda, about the date and the place. He has requested a change of location and date, he said.

When asked about the date and hour of the solemn session, Zeqiri said it would be held “within the week to set the” deadlines.

Erden Attic was sworn in Friday as new mayor of North Mitrovica

The new chairman of northern Mitrovica, Erden Attic, was sworn in Friday. He received mostly votes in the April 23rd elections, which were marked by low citizens.

On Friday, prior to holding the solemn session, Kosovo's flag was deployed at the municipality facility.

The first decision Attic made was the appointment of Katarina Adjanqiq from the Serb community as deputy head of the municipality.

Attic, after the oath said he would work indiscriminately and without discrimination with all citizens.

Attic said that along with his target team, he has normalisation of the situation in this northern municipality.

The deadline to take the oath ends on May 28th

Besides Erden Attici, there are three mayors of northern municipalities who have not yet sworn in. It's Izmir Zeqiri in Zubin Potok, Lulzim Hetem in Leposaviq and Ilir Peci in Zvecan.

The elections in the North were held on April 23rd, as the results were certified on April 28th, so May 28th was set as the deadline for the oath.

So Peci, Hetem's Zeqiri have until May 28th to give the oath, otherwise they lose their mandate.

Hovier asked for chairman with <x0-Mical”

US Ambassador to Kosovo Jeffrey Hovenier has said that the elections held on April 23rd in the four northern municipalities were “regularly the laws of Kosovo mandated with the Constitution”, but added that the new mayors of municipalities in the north should enter only the buildings where they are welcome.

The selected “Offices must enter only the buildings where they are welcome. The location within the municipality in which elected officials take the oath at the ceremony does not affect their status as elected official”, he said in an interview for Telegrafi.

The American ambassador said he expects new leaders to take on technical and non-political roles.

In view of low turnout, we would expect newly elected mayors and municipal municipalities to take on a technical rather than political role, the ambassador has said.

Hovenier said any criminal activity intended to overthrow these officials in carrying out their responsibilities would face severe condemnation from the US and the international community.
