The oath of new mayors in the north, KFOR: Kosovo Police Hold Security

KFOR has said it will monitor the situation and maintain a high level of readiness of its units to cope with any possible scenarios.

With the oath of Mitrovica chairman and the situation in general, security will be made by Kosovo Police. KFOR continues to monitor the situation and maintain a high level of readiness of its entities to face any possible scenarios, expecting institutions in Kosovo to effectively address the situation”, KFOR's response to Rtv 21.

According to KFOR, the commander remains in close contact with all of his key co-ordinators, including EULEX representatives, UNMIK, the OSCE, institutions in Kosovo and the Kosovo Security Organisations.

The NATO-led “Mission remains fully focused on the daily implementation of its mandate based on UN Security Council Resolution 1244 in 1999 to ensure a safe environment and freedom of movement for all communities in Kosovo”, further said in KFOR's response.

Erden Attic will make his first oath by the total of four mayors who emerged from elections in the north.

The new chairman's pledge will take place at the northern Mitrovica municipality facility, and there is no other point on the agenda.

Yesterday, the states of Quintić, France, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States of America have said the April 23rd elections in Kosovo's four northern municipalities are held in line with Kosovo's constitutional and legal requirements.

However, these states say that as a result of boycott by the Serb community, their results are not long-term political solutions for these municipalities.

On April 23rd, four parties of municipal elections and two parties of municipal assembly were held in northern Kosovo, in accordance with Kosovo's constitutional and legal requirements. However, after boycotting a considerable part of the Serb community, the results are not long-term political solutions for these municipalities”, the joint declaration of these states said.

The States of Quintão have called on all actors who urgently work together among all interested parties, including local communities, towards a solution that ensures stable participation democracies in these municipalities.

There should be no actions or initiatives involving newly elected mayors and municipal municipalities that do not serve the people or that may increase tensions. That includes exercising more than administrative competencies and the process of taking office, since it is not required that municipal mayors take the oath at municipal offices. All sides should refrain from using force or actions that fuel tensions or spur conflict”, the Quint states say.

In the end, the “large key” says it supports the EU facilitated dialogue on normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia, including the need for urgent progress in establishing the majority Serbian Commission Association.

We are separated less than 24 hours from the oath of the new chairman of North Mitrovica. Erden Attic will make his first oath by the total of four mayors who emerged from elections in the north.

On April 23rd, in northern municipalities -- inhabited by Serb majority-run Mitrovica, Zvecan, Leposaviq and Zubin Potok -- early elections have been held, which have been boycotted by the local Serb population.

According to Central Election Commission data, 1,567 voters or 3.47 percent of the electoral body have emerged in the elections.

The municipalities in the north were left without mayors from November last year, since Serbian representatives in that area have resigned from their jobs, due to disagreement with a Kosovo Government decision to reregister Serbian vehicles with illegal license plates.

Newly elected mayors for northern Kosovo municipalities -- all of the Albanian parties -- must take the oath and enter new offices, though they have worked according to Serbia's system.
