Dwelled mainly by Serbs, four municipalities in northern Kosovo have elected non-Serb heads.
The 23 April local elections in northern Mitrovica, Leposaviq, Zubin Potok's Zveqa, were boycotted by Serbs.
By May 28th, elected heads must take office through oath.
Serbian citizens of that area say they do not accept these leaders. While the Albanian community in that part views this change as positive.
We expect that there will be a little more change here, especially that there is an Albanian who has been chosen, few will co-ordinate better, because it will work harder for the state of Kosovo and this part --”, says Nehat Jusuf.
I don't know anything about this or anything. If he does, he will. What should we do here now”, Gordana says.
Never better, never better. The first time even before the war and after the war that a Albanian mayor of Leposaviqi (of Leposaviqi) is Luli, Lulzim Hasnan”, says Sami Tmani.
Here in Leposaviq? I don't think there's gonna be a new president here, and I don't know yet. We will challenge it and then we will see”, claims Rade, resident of this municipality.
And we haven't been happy that this happened this way because much better it would be for our neighbours (Serbs) to come to the elections since they are a majority and earn them and lead our municipality”, says Julazim Peci from the village of Bolett of Zvecan.
I don't expect anything, I don't think it will. I don't think so. People here are united, I don't think there's going to be any taking over the mayor's duties. In my opinion, I don't know anything at the moment, we'll see how it will work”, says a Serb from Zvecan.
Bajram Selimi of Zubin Potoku says the “is better (which has been elected an Albanian chairman). Izmir (Zeqi) is good”.
“What we might think, I know it's not good for us, that's all I can say, anything else”, says another citizen of Zubin Potok.
Northern Kosovo Serbs have abandoned Kosovo institutions since November 2022.
The municipalities in the north, in the majority, are exploited by Serb parallel structures there.
Recently, some of these objects have been placed in iron shfur doors.
From the United States, it has been called on for the mayors not to break into these objects.
In local elections in the north, only 3.4 percent of all voters voted. / REL
