Suppliers argue that they have increased workers' salaries and that there are expensive electricity, with chips neither promises to cut prices of their products. Currently, the price of 100 kilograms of flour is purchased up to 44 euros.
On the other hand, citizens demand a decrease in the price of bread, which pay 0.050 euros per pound of bread. While in some places, as in Fushe Kosovo, this price is up to 0.60 euros.
The chairman of the Association of Mollists of Kosovo, Muhamet Fariz, tells Kosovo that bakers should lower prices if they receive the flour at a lower price.
“The content of the flour price depends on the price of wheat, and also the bread must depend on the price of flour, since they are reciprocially linked. The price of flour has dropped from 20 to 25 percent, depending on not having the same flour prices, because there is no agreement between each other to get the same price, but not to be based on self-service, rely on the miller's price. The price of bread must fall, but we do not expect too much, it may fall to 15 percent.”, Fariz says.
However, even after the fall of the wheat and flour prices, bakers continue to hold high prices.
The owner of a furnace in Pristina, Armend Qoqaj, tells Kosovo that despite the decrease in the price of wheat and flour, obligations are big and in no form can you lower prices.
Citizens too feel that the price of bread is high and should be reduced.
The chairman of the Association of Mollists of Kosovo, Farisi, says that the world situation of wheat power has already stabilised and that this has also contributed to the decline of the price.
During last year and April 2023, Kosovo has imported wheat and flour worth over 55m euros, while the value of exports of these products has been below 2m euros.
