Hill: Historic change taking place, Albania, Serbia are working together as never before

US Ambassador to Belgrade Christopher Hill said today that a historic change is taking place because Albania and Serbia are working together as never before. Hill said it was recently in Albania and that he has heard from a senior official that one of the biggest things has happened [...]
Hill said it was recently in Albania and that he has heard from a senior official that one of the biggest things that has happened to Albania was opening borders through the Open Balkans initiative.
He said the issue of approaching the region's economic markets is in many ways the main challenge of this century, because at the end of the past century, there was a distance of major states in the Balkans and that the main issue for the beginning of this century is the definition of ways that displaced states met again within a single economic market.
“We don't want distrust to be a factor that will prevent trade relief”, said Hill at the Regional Conference on Relief of Balkan Countries Trade Relations, organised by USAID, the World Bank and the Swiss Government.
He added that the challenge is that many borders have arisen in the Balkans.
They must not divide, but unite countries. There are numerous efforts for regional integration. And one of them in the Balkans is what Minister (Tomislav) Momirovic mentioned and will repeat it because I strongly support the Open Balkans initiative, which aims to invite all Western Balkan countries to join and that, despite their status, they can work together and work on opening the” borders, Hill said.
