After completing the questions of Peter Shala's defence team, members of the court have asked the witness about his statements regarding the persons being held in the same room.
Judge Gilbert Beatty has asked for clarification on the number of people who were banned in the same room at the metal factory in Kukes.
Bitty: My question is these seven people who were there when you left were there all the time you were detained there, so the same people stayed even while you were stopped there?
Witness: No.
Bitty: Were some of the people from this room released while you were detained and brought in more detention during this time?
Witness: No, a couple got out, others haven't noticed. Maybe there was, I don't know, a witness answered.
On the other hand, the judge has said that in the previous statement, the protected witness has said that during the time of the ban some young prisoners came and some others left.
Bitty: The statement you gave the SPS you said that when you were detained some young prisoners came and some of the first group were detained, do you remember saying that while you were banned, how long were you leaving?
Witness: Yeah.
Bitty: Do you remember if there was a change in the prisoners, how many you remember, how many have left, and how many have arrived? Do You Recall?
Witness: No, I don't remember.
As the judge followed up with other clarification questions for his Roma brothers in the room, the broadcast was at private session.
On the other hand, the witness said he wasn't aware of what happened to the other detainees when they got out. In the detailed questions of Judge Beatty, he has denied hearing voices or shouting from these people.
Bitty: When I was asked, I knew you hoped they would be interrogating during the day because the thought of questioning at night was frightening because those questioned the night they came, when they returned to the room, was something not to envy. And then they asked you why and you said they were beaten so hard they could barely stand. Do you remember these words of witness?
Witness: Yeah, I'm remembering.
Bitty: So, is it true that when they returned they were able to be envious?
Witness: Yeah, but we didn't see them in the dark at night, and now we heard what they were talking about, said the protected witness.
The Witness told the court the next day, after returning from an interview, they were afraid to see. Later, he said he had not noticed signs on the bodies of persons who were being held in the metal factory in Kukes.
The chairman of the court, Mapie Veldt-Foglia, has announced that at 2: 00 p.m., certain oral orders will be given tomorrow on various issues.
This is the sixth protected SPS witness against Peter Shala, who is facing charges with war crimes claims.
Peter Shala has been following this session through video connection from the Para-burging Center.
Shala has been staying at the detention centre at The Hague since March 2021.
According to Special “The allegations Shala was conducted approximately between May 17th 1999 and June 5, 1999 against persons detained at the metal factory in Kukes (Albania), allegedly used by the Kosovo Liberation Army”.
