In this decision, 33 votes were in favour, seven against and five abstentions.
States that voted against Kosovo membership: Spain, Romania, Cyprus, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Serbia, and Hungary as the biggest surprise, considering the fact that it recognises Kosovo's independence. Greece, Slovakia, Ukraine and Bosnia abstained, while Armenia did not vote at all.
Serbia's Prime Minister Anna Brnabic has cancelled her participation in the Delph's economic forum in Greece because of Athens' stance on Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe.
Geogos Katrougalos, professor of Public Law, Greece's former foreign minister, said in an interview for Euronews Albania that there is no change in Greece's attitude towards recognising Kosovo because Greece is an agreement accepted by both sides, Paparaci broadcasts.
“Sic knows Greece is a 4 EU nations that do not recognise Kosovo's independence. Our position is explained by the fact that we want to avoid conflicts in the Balkans, so we want solutions to be accepted by both sides into international law. We are in favour of direct dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade. There is no change in Greece's attitude towards recognising Kosovo, and we, as we have said, want an acceptable agreement to solve problems in the Balkans, as was done with the Prespa agreement that ended the conflict between Greece and RMV”, the former Greek Foreign Minister said.
