Freddy Beler in prison reacts to official Athens: A scandalous decision

According to the Greek side, the decision is an unprecedented act that will harm bilateral relations.

Greek Foreign Ministry statement:

Today's ruling of the Vlora court is scandalous. The arrest of the Himara municipality candidate two days before the elections does not indicate rule of law. The decision to detain the mayoral candidate brings the overthrow of equality rules in local elections in Himara, which is an important centre of the ethnic Greek minority in Albania.

A decision that will have a negative impact on European Union relations with Albania, as the condition for Albania's European path is the constant position of states that adhere to membership, European rules and the rule of law.

Decisions like today violate the above rules and show in reality Albania is not following the European path.

Coalition candidate Meta-Brisha for the Himara municipality, Fred Beler, has been placed in prison by the Vlora court a day after being arrested for vote buying.

File passed it for trial SPAK, while Beler has been transported to detention cells in Tirana.

Present at the hall to follow closely the works of today's session has also been the Greek ambassador to Tirana, Constantina Kamitsi.
