The price hikes are seen by citizens as quite disturbing, rifocusing that financial revenues they have failed to cover their expenses.
But citizens' problems seem to be not being heard by anyone, so it has been considered the chairman of the Association “Consumer”, Ceatin Kachanic.
In a statement issued for Telegrafi, says some prices in Kosovo are higher in Europe.
“Vite ago I have reacted together with the organisation "The Consumer" that some awards are higher than in the European Union countries. These prices are high end, if you're aware of the number of components, if you take the expiration deadline, if you consider quality, then these prices are really extremely high. We don't have control over them. The problem we have in Kosovo is not heard by anyone -- neither by the Government nor the Ministry of Justice, nor by the Ministry of Agriculture” -- it is expressed.
Speaking of high prices, Selatini stressed there are price differentials even between Pristina and other cities.
The price gap between other cities and Pristina is estimated to have higher standards and the quality of offering the same product is higher, but that is no reason for the price difference. This is due to lack of control, and also because Government and its mechanisms are in conflict with interest with all producers and all the vendors of these products”, he added among other things.
Selatati stressed that so far the government has taken nothing to do with consumer demands.
The government has traditionally proven that more deals with trade, industry, public services, less or nothing with the citizen who is a taxpayer and the main generator of the Kosovo budget”.
In the price hikes, Selatini said it also affected global developments, citing the war in Ukraine.
However, according to Ceatin, we have helped create the price issue, privatising production companies.
“We have created this problem, or helped, when we privatise several production companies, we don't have the opportunity to produce some products we've already defeated. We always get the problem with import. The government should recognise the consumer as a state budget contributor and discuss problems”, he has indicated.
Otherwise, several days ago Finance Minister Iron Murati has said prices have begun to normalise, however, there are still costly products.
“Nafta has already returned to a level of 1.15-1.25 euros/ly, the same is starting to fall the prices of other products. A litre of food oil can now be bought at 1.20 euros, while wheat has affected the first level several years with 0.22 euros/kg. However, there are still many other products that continue to have prices beyond normal, mainly as a result of the high profit margins being applied to businessmen”, the minister had said.
But, the minister's statements have rejected the Democratic League of Kosovo.
LDK Chairman Lumir Abdixhiku has said the minister's statements are another attempt at fraud, adding their growth is continuing.
“State tells us prices are normalized. Another scam attempt. Here we go. What was bought at 105 euros in February 2021, today it must be bought at 127 euros”, Abdixhiku has reacted.
