Albania is making efforts to extend tourism throughout the year, but again in summer months it is the highest concentration of tourists, unlike other European states, where hotels are busy almost year round.
Croatia, Greece, Bulgaria, Albania and Montenegro are listed by Eurostat among the countries that have the highest tourist seasonalization in Europe.
In total, about a third of the tourist nights in Europe are spent in July and August, according to Eurostat. While in Albania, this burden reached about 46%, according to Monitor processing, based on Eurostat statistics, third behind Croatia (59%) and Bulgaria (4.8%), leaving behind Greece (43%).
In all, some 3.83 million concentrations were recorded in Albania in 2022, with a 20% increase compared to the previous year. The upgrade has taken place in the first half of the year, while in August the stays fell by 2.5%, following an improvement in September and October, again November and December tended to decline (Look at the graph: Nights of stay in the accommodation facilities, Albania.
In the first two months of 2023, the number of night stays has increased by 3.6%.
Europe; More than a third of tourist nights are passed in July and August
According to Eurostat, seasonality has always had an essential impact on tourism, the evident phenomenon on tourist arrivals patterns and past nights at EU hotels and resorts.
During peak holiday periods, tourist areas may face overcrowding and shortage of resources. On the other hand, calmer periods can cause unused objects and job instability because of demand fluctuations.
In 2022 the traditional seasonal model was observed, where most of the previous nights were recorded in August (18% of the past nights in 2022; 478 million nights), followed by July (16%; 440 million). By contrast, the percentage of past nights was the lowest in January (3%; 89 million), followed by February (4%; 111 million).
A significant portion of the arrivals were also registered in July and August (every month 14% of the total arrivals at 2022; 127 million and 128 million incoming travellers respectively). It should be mentioned the correlation between arrivals and past nights during these months of peak.
The peak in past nights is greater than the peak of arrivals, suggesting tourists tend to stay longer in these busy months, time corresponding to the main vacation period. This trend increases demand for accommodation during the summer season.
The months of peak for past nights were July and August in all EU countries in 2022. The seasonal model was the most pronounced in Croatia (59% of past 2022 nights), Bulgaria (4.8%) and Greece (43%).
Meanwhile, the seasonal model was less pronounced in Malta and Finland (both 25%) and Germany (26%). /Monitor. al
