More than 36,000 people have been evacuated from their homes as a result of floods and 14 people have lost their lives. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Melon was forced to leave the G7 summit in Japan due to emergency.
“Sciently, I cannot stay as far away from Italy at such a complex moment,” she told reporters, thanking 5,000 people, from rescue workers to volunteers, mobilised to help those affected by the floods.
Emilia-Romana is the worst affected area when in 36 hours it has fallen as much as 6 months of rain, officials have suggested, naming them the worst floods the country has seen over a century.
Floods have caused more than 305 landslides in various areas and have damaged or closed over 500 roads in the region. Mellon has announced that they will find the solution very soon.
