Over 1,000 Customs officials, ATK police have declared their property

The director of the Agency for Prevention of Corruption, Yll Buleskaj, has provided details about the declaration of property by officials of Customs, Police and ATK.

He has clarified that 4 thousand officials of these institutions are obliged to declare property by 11 May. According to him, more than 600 who have carried out the task, over 700 have begun completing the wealth declaration and there are fewer than 3 thousand who have not begun to do the job.

The statement is made only in electronic form, they can do it from any location that they want either from home, through mobile phone, or through computers. We're calling for a statement to be made in terms, but it's very important that it be made accurate.

Buleskaj said that all those officials of these institutions who carry inspection duties, certificates, verification or licensing, and those dealing with investigations in the police.

He claimed that the wealth declaration from next year would also be done by doctors and professors of public university,

“Offices who first make the property declaration, which includes Customs officials, ATK officials, all those who carry inspection duties, certificates, verification, verification or license. Also including those performing the investigation duties, including the Police, each of those who perform the investigation duties will have the remaining days to make the property declaration as a new category. There are two other new categories that have no obligation to make the statement, they are doctors of the secondary and training system, as well as public university professors who have to make the statement from next year”.

Buleskaj says that after the clarifications needed for certain categories there has been no reluctance to declare their wealth.

“From the practice so far there is no particular group that is reluctant to ask because it's a new legal obligation, they've been obliged to make the statement only high management positions, and now we have the lowest level of”.

The Agency's Krei has clarified that following the new law's entry into force are in the phase of drafting secondary legislation in order to realise their competencies.

The new “legislation has greatly expanded our competencies, giving us new mechanisms to prevent corruption. These mechanisms have already begun in the initial phase of their use, because most of them have entered into force at the beginning of this year and we are on the rise of our capacities, but also in the drafting and finalising of the sub-legal acts that enable us to be more consistent and to be clearer in implementing these competencies”.
