According to Albania's Parliament's announcement, praising Vatican support for Albania and Albanians in the region, as well as very good canonical relations between the Holy See and Kosovo's Catholic community, Nikola voiced confidence that the Holy See will recognise Kosovo's independence.
Paul Richard Gallagher has said that the Holy See encourages and supports normalisation of relations between Kosovo and Serbia.
“Albania and the Western Balkans are a priority for the Holy See. We believe Albania moves in the right direction, towards its European destination and that this visit is evidence of this belief. The Holy See encourages and supports normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia, implementing the Ohrid Agreement as a step towards approaching the recognition of Kosovo”, he has said.
