The document appears to have been designed to prevent Moldova's animation towards the West, which includes closer relations with NATO and application for joining the European Union.
The document refers to the importance of preventing Moldova's NATO membership. It was first taken and discovered by a consortium of media, including VSquare and Frontstone, RlSE Moldova, Expressen in Sweden, Dosier Center for Investigative Journalism and other media.
In the full document, which appears to have been written in 2021 by the FSB Directorate for Interborder Co-operation. His title is “Russian Federation strategic goals in the Republic of Moldova”, reports CNN forward Periscopi.
The document stipulates a 10-year strategy for bringing Moldova, a former Soviet republic located between Ukraine and Romania, into the realm of Russia's influence.
The plan includes Moldova's dependence on Russian gas imports and the promotion of social conflict, as well as efforts to block Moldova's efforts to gain influence in Transnistria's separatist region, where some 1500 Russian soldiers are located.
Russia has accused Ukraine of planning to invade Transnistria, which borders southwestern Ukraine. The Russian Defence Ministry said last month that Ukrainians were amassing armoured forces in several border villages. Moldova and Ukraine have rejected the claim.
Asked about the document Thursday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: “We know nothing about the existence of such a plan.
