Professor of UPI discovers the new bug after 13 years of work: Living Only in Kosovo

Natural Faculty of Mathematics professor Halil Ibrahimi, has presented on Wednesday the new type of insect discovered in the Sharr Bjeshks, called “Potapophylax hummeens” Ibrahim said that to discover this insect, he has been working since 2010, while saying that the insect helps operate rivers and [...]
Ibrahimi said that to discover this insect, he has been working since 2010, while said the insect helps operate rivers and river cleaning.
He, in this case, considers Kosovo a hotbed of biodiversity in Europe.
Professor Ibrahim said that insects have a very important role in the world, without their existence, according to him there is no development of the world.
He said that the life of all living things in the world depend on insects.
If insects disappeared, even the world for some time would not exist. The lives of all living things depend on insects. There are 1 million known insect species. In Kosovo, there has been little insect data. 19 new species of insects have been discovered in the last decade by the biology department at UP”, he said.
As for the insect's recent discovery “Potamhylax hummoins”, the professor said this insect is the unique type that lives only in Kosovo.
He said that this insect has a very important role in the functioning of rivers and forests.
He said that with these findings Kosovo is proving to be the hearth of biodiversity in Europe.
This is the last type that research has started since 2010, has been going on for years, in the field, in the lab. Research has been finalised this year. They are key to the functioning of rivers, river cleaning, and clean water from springs. This insect is also the first barrier to environmental pollution to develop. The importance is that you identify and describe those areas that are bypassed and polluted in a massive way and which are important. Through this research we are proving that Kosovo is a hotbed of biodiversity in Europe, which is already with facts. The mention of these research in the world made us feel good, of all these researches there are 60 works published in the world's most prestigious magazines”, he said.
While University of Pristina Rector Qerim Qrimimim on this occasion gave thanks to Professor Halil Ibrahimi for his work and contribution.
He said it's the least they can do for his work.
It's not like we often have discoveries, but our staff did good work. News with these are few and not broadcast enough, so this line we've made decisions to present the work that has discovered certain kinds of insects in Kosovo. Those of you who are students should be proud of your professor's work. This field of study has a special role. It's a rather symbolic gesture, it's not that I have a chance to offer something today, but only an gratitude to share. It's the least gratitude we can do for”, he said.
