Kosovo nurses, eyes to Europe

The possibility of hiring 70 nurses with Bachelor degrees and 15 middle school nurses from the Kosovo University Hospital Clinic Service (SHSKUK) will not stop the young people's intention to be employed abroad. Their interest remains to have their profession exerted abroad for a number of reasons.

Ilirjana Haziray, a third year student at one of Kosovo's private universities, says that despite the options offered, her interest continues to remain in foreign market employment.

The desire to hire Kosovo remains, but because of the prospect of employment abroad is the right solution.

I would like to be employed in Kosovo, it wouldn't have mattered to the private or state institution, but given the perspective that is offered to us as nurses, I think I would have found myself more if I worked abroad”.

For a time, Ilijana has been employed in Germany.

During this period she realised that Germany's health system is very different from that of Kosovo.

I've also been in practice in Germany, I understand we're too far from their health system, but there are more perspectives than in our country unfortunately”

The chairman of the Kosovo Nurses' House, Naser Rrustemi, again considers that “is a small number”, to employ nurses, as Kosovo desperately needs to increase the number of nurses.

He even claims that nurses who have retired to QKUK have not been replaced.

And I think, despite the fact that although it's going to soften the nurses' demands for employment, it's still a very small number of reasons that we have two years of information that all the nurses who have retired haven't been replaced, I'm talking about the Infectious Clinic and then other clinics and not even talking about nurses who have left their jobs and gone out of the country”

Another problem, says Rrustemi, lies in replacing medical sisters.

By law, when a nurse is born, I cannot enter the tournament for three years.

The biggest problem not only the QKUK, but also the secondary care is with nurses in shifts for reasons that a medical sister at birth cannot enter the tournament for three years and that's a bigger problem here because it's never before before to be replaced by a 2010x1>.

It is expected that this number of nurses will be fulfilled soon, since a number of them have long been waiting for employment.

I'm sure I'm going to go through a very large number because we've got nurses long enough that maybe for 15 years there's never been a chance to get a job and that number's probably going to be a lot”.

However, he adds that there is also a category that has no interest in hiring in Kosovo, as their goals remain abroad.

There are nurses on the other side who aren't even interested in hiring because they're going abroad because there are conditions and salaries of another”.

Health Commission member and MP from the ranks of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Shemsedin Dresaj, tells the Albanian Post that concern for this initiative could be, but that evacuation cannot stop that way.

I think it's a good initiative and there will be a lot of local staff interest. Those who plan to get out, you can stop with competitions because they're going to be out of”.

But I think that we as a country should offer the prospect of employment and I think that this is a good chance that those experts and professionals stop at the site”.

However, it says it is not enough to meet the needs of health staff and patients.

To meet the needs of the medical staff, this number is symbolic, it is not enough to meet all the” requirements.

On February 27th, the Kosovo Clinical and University Hospital Service has informed that the University Clinical Centre of Kosovo (QKUK) has opened competitions to complete 100 free jobs.

During the announced competition, employment opportunities will have 70 nurses with Bachelor degrees, 15 middle school nurses, 10 batgen technicians with Bachelor diplomas, and five medical labs with bachelors.

The problem of leaving Kosovo doctors has started since 2016, when the government stopped opening specialist competitions.

While health professionals have already stated that urgent measures must be taken for this phenomenon, in order to reduce the number of doctors from Kosovo.

On the other hand, the Government of Kosovo -- the same as any other government -- has not presented specific plans for the departure of medical specialists.

Government plans, according to what has been presented so far, are largely provided as general platforms, where no specific health problems are discussed. And as government officials change, the departure of young doctors keeps up the same pace.
