US Ambassador to Breograd Christopher Hill has again talked about the Brussels meeting between Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq. Despite EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, after the February 27th meeting, said the parties have accepted the European plan, Hill says no one has yet accepted anything.

During his stay in Novi Pazar, in an interview for a local radio there Sto Plus '%s', speaking of dialogue for normalisation of relations between Pristina and Belgrade, Hill has said it is still early to give estimates about the outcome of this meeting and that they should wait for new talks.

I think it's going in the right direction, but we have to wait and see because nobody's ever accepted anything yet. I don't want to talk about concrete and deadlines, but I think the important thing is that the issues are being resolved, that after 10 years finally the Association of Serb majority communities will be formed and that many see this as a test of how much the international community is interested in resolving this issue, and I can say that this is the case. All it takes is patience”, he said.

In this interview, the US ambassador to Belgrade has also talked about sanctions Serbia must impose on Russia. He has said Serbia will have to make a decision on sanctions against Russia because, as he praised, it is paying a high price for their failure to decide.

He said it is very important for Serbia not to expect to become a member of the European Union (BE), but to harmonise its policy with the EU, including the issue of imposing sanctions on Russia.

We need to know that Russia brutally attacked its neighbour, many small European countries imposed sanctions, though it was difficult for them, but did so because it was right. I also believe Serbia will understand that, it is never too late to do the right thing”, Hill said.

Asked what slows Serbia's progress towards the EU more, Ambassador Hill said the most honest response would be “all co-”, writes Reporter.

However, the most important thing is for citizens of Serbia to be convinced that the road to the EU is right and we believe it is. I hope that the citizens of Serbia see this, I am aware that there are frustrations and frustrations that the process is not faster, but the most important thing is that Serbia is on track”, Hill said.

Serbia has made much progress. I disagree with pessimists who say Serbia is going in a bad direction. Serbia is heading in a good direction. I know it's extremely difficult and slow, but it's on the right track and we'll support it with as much as we can”, he said.

He believes Moscow's influence in Belgrade is negative and that Russia's results in Serbia are bad and that citizens should see for themselves.

My “My decision is that Russia is not helping Serbia in any way. They did nothing to resolve the Kosovo issue, they did almost nothing to help economically, even for their energy support, Serbia must pay,” he added.

He said political relations between Serbia and the US are improving, that he is pleased with the recent conversation between President Vuciq and Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, and that things are good on the economic plan.

For better relations there should be as many meetings as possible at the highest level. American companies are present in Serbia, are first-class companies, with modern technology, not the technology of the 1970s. In recent months alone, we have had the visit of two business delegations.

“They like Serbia's position on the eve of the EU, as well as its ambition to become part of the EU”, he said.

Hill is on a two-day visit to Novi Pazar, which is the first visit by the US ambassador to that city after nearly six years, during which he has talked to representatives of local self-government, two Islamic communities, the Bosniak National Council. and young people.

This region is very important for the US. This is a dynamic, multicultural area that was unknown 25 years ago on which road to go. Difficult but fair decisions were made so that communities could live together. Peace and stability were preserved, and this should be rewarded for the US's greater presence”, the ambassador said.

He added that in a direct conversation with representatives of the Islamic communities and the Bosniak National Council, he has learned about the problems they face.
