Germany says without Serb participation in elections in the north, there is no association

The German Embassy's deputy head of mission in Belgrade, Carsten Meyer-Wiefhausen, said today that the formation of the Serb Majority Commission Association in Kosovo is not possible if the candidate lists for elections Kosovo plans to hold in four municipalities in northern Kosovo have not surrendered. It's a totally practical issue. If you don't have officials, mayors, you can't create a community of municipalities. Without people in them, you have no institutions. You need those institutions. So simple is”, said the German diplomat questioned the possible consequences if candidate lists are not delivered within the deadline, to the panel of discussion “Nothing between the European proposal for normalisation of relations between Belgrade and Pristina”, reports Serbian news agency “Beta”.
The deadline set by the Kosovo Central Election Commission for application of candidates for elections scheduled to be held in four municipalities in northern Kosovo late April has been extended several times and expires today.
The Serbian list has reiterated today that it will not participate in extraordinary local elections in four municipalities in northern Kosovo until the Association is formed and until all Kosovo special units are withdrawn from that area.
NKEU Task Group Co-ordinator for Chapter 35 in Serbia Dragisa Mijaciq said, on the same panel, that the act of failing to deliver the lists is symbolic, that it only postpones the realisation of the agreement reached, which extends Serbia's progress process on the road to the European Union.
The “S must first change rhetoric about the agreement, because more benefits must be communicated than problems, and then everything related to EU integration. Any integration into the EU will take a long time”, Mijaciq said.
Meyer-Wiefhausen also said the leaders of Serbia and Kosovo in Ohrid on March 18th have accepted all the annex provisions for implementation of the agreement and that they should work on its implementation step by step.
The panel “Nothing between the European Proposal for the normalisation of relations between Belgrade and Pristina” was organised by the European Movement in Serbia and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
