Like Finland, which has one of the longest neighbours in Europe with Russia, Sweden and Sweden fled their policy for decades of non-military lines and applied to NATO membership in May last year after the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Guardian explained, followed.
But, facing less diplomatic difficulties than Stockholm, Helsinki wants to move forward even before April's general elections, while public opinion supports membership.
Finland and Sweden have the support of all NATO member states, except Hungary and Turkey.
Passing the law implies that Finland can act quickly, even if ratification comes after establishing the new government.
The law is expected to pass easily, as the initial application in May was supported by 188 deputies from 200 MPs.
As the passage of the law does not imply Finland will join NATO automatically after the ratification of Turkey and Hungary, it would set the deadline for how long Helsinki would wait for its neighbour. /Periscopi/
