On 24 March, 24 years from the start of the North Atlantic Alliance's air strikes against military police targets in the former Yugoslavia.
On the day when NATO's famous bombing campaign against Serb forces that were committing genocide in Kosovo, former US President Bill Clinton was explaining to Americans why this campaign was necessary.
“Today our forces joined NATO against Serb forces responsible for brutality in Kosovo. We are acting to protect thousands of innocent people in Kosovo from military offensive, we are acting to prevent a broader” war, he said.
He had explained to world audiences that Aggressive Serbia was indifferent even when Kosovo leaders, during the time when Kosovars were being killed, agreed for peace.
For years Kosovars had peacefully tried to regain their rights, when Milosevic sent his troops to crush them, this attempt became violent. We proposed a peace agreement that Kosovo leaders signed, although they did not give him everything they wanted while Serbs refused to even discuss. This was not a war in the traditional sense, it was an attack of tanks and artillery on people who were largely without protection, whose leaders agreed for peace”, has added Clinton.
