The War Crimes Prosecutor's Office (OWCP) investigated war crimes from the 1990s conflicts in the former Yugoslavia and issued charges. The Security Information Agency and the Criminal Sanctions Enforcement Directorate are tasked with considering such cases through internal audits.
According to the OWCP, the disappearance and murder of Star, Agron and Mehmet Bytyqi in 1999, three Kosovo-American brothers remained under investigation. The Bytyqi brothers were arrested in Serbia on the border with Kosovo, executed and buried in a police training centre in Petrovo Selo, a police facility of Serbia's Interior Ministry (MPB) commanded by former MPB General Goran Radosavljevic.
Officials said they continue to collect new facts to determine the authors' identity of what they reported were possible charges of war crimes against prisoners of war. However, the government did not make significant progress towards ensuring justice for the victims, and it was unclear to what extent authorities were actively investigating the case.
