Bialiatski and three other key figures of the Viasna Human Rights Centre were condemned for financing antigovernmental protests
They were arrested and imprisoned after mass protests for the 2010 elections that gave President Alexander Lukashenko a new mandate.
Lukashenko, who has held this post since 1994, has oppressed opponents and hit independent news media.
The charges against Bialiatski and his colleagues were linked to obtaining Viasna's money for political prisoners and helping pay their legal fees.
Sviatana Tsikhanouskaya, leader of the Belarusian opposition movement, called it “shameful injustice”.
