The heavy weather hit several southern states at night, while the destruction centres appeared on Saturday morning.
On Sunday, stronger storms are expected for the region, with a level two-by-five risk of damage to the winds, isolated tornadoes and strong hail.
The affected areas will include Montgomery, Alabama; Jackson, Mississippi; and Columbus and Macon in Georgia.
Floods are also possible, meteorologists said.
