In particular, sleeping with a television or light in the room was positively accompanied by an increase of five pounds [5 kg] during a five - year period among women in a new study published in the medical journal JAMA Internal Medicine.
“There was a 17% chance of winning five kilograms after we adapted to the confusing” factors, said Dale Sandler, a researcher at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences in North Carolina.
In addition, there has been a 22% chance of becoming overweight and a 33% probability of obesity.
The study included analyzing data for 43,722 women, aged 35-74, in the United States. The data came from a national study between 2003 and 2009 involving information on each woman's sleeping habits.
However, the study had certain limitations, including that only links were found between light released during sleep and weight gain ʹ not a cause relationship. More research is needed to determine if sleeping with lights can actually cause weight gain.
