The photos distributed in social media showed Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelensky, hosting his American counterpart in the centre of the capital, Kiev.
Although warning sirens were first heard, they did not report an attack.
Zelensky said Beden's visit “is an extremely important sign of support for all Ukrainian”.
Biden said he is in Kiev to confirm the US's steadfast commitment “to democracy, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine”.
When [Russian president, Vladimir] Putin began the invasion nearly a year ago, he thought Ukraine is weak and that the West is divided. He thought he could defeat us, but he was wrong”, Biden said.

The United States is one of the largest relief providers for the Ukrainian Army. Since the beginning of the Russian occupation on February 24th of last year, Washington has sent protection and logistics equipment worth tens of billions of dollars.
Beden and Zelensky met for the last time in December, when the Ukrainian president remained for official visit to Washington.
At the time, Biden assured his counterpart that US support for Ukraine “will continue as long as there is a need for”.
