The recognition of Kosovo by Serbia should be the first point of dialogue, says the assistant in the European Parliament, Federica Welk. The criticism concerns the European Union for how it has addressed the dialogue so far, for which it adds that mediators Josep Borrell and Miroslav Lajcak should be changed.
In an interview with KosovoPress, Woelk says the European Union must impose sanctions on Serbia and remove measures against Kosovo, but emphasises that some member states are negatively impacting in this direction.
The accredited parliamentary assistant of the Ulrike Mueller eurodeput, Federica Welk It appeals to the Kosovo side to lobby more for its right to highlight the fact that Kosovo stands better than other Western Balkan countries, especially in the field of rule of law.
“To be honest, I am a little critical of how the EU has addressed dialogue so far for some reasons. First of all, because there were sanctions against Kosovo, which are still in place, and in my opinion, this is completely unfair. Second, because Serbia has not started to implement the agreements, and Serbia has had no consequences for this, plus, at the moment we are seeing Serbia has had the courage to say in front of Von der Leen that they will not recognise Kosovo, and that should be, in my opinion, the first point of dialogue”, she says.
And in order to halt Serbia's influence in the Balkans and separately in Kosovo, Woelk stresses that the European Union must take measures.
According to her, suspending EU funds to Serbia until the latter does not recognise Kosovo is something that needs to live.
“Sanctions should be imposed on Serbia and removed from Kosovo...”, she says.
She also speaks of Serbia's aggression in Banjska when Serbian terrorists attacked the Kosovo Police, leaving police sergeant Africa Bulnjaku dead.
