Chief of the EU Office in Kosovo Ambassador Thomas Szunyog, in HINA RTK Prime) has talked about the European Commission's report on Kosovo. According to him, the report is the European Union's reflection and response to the political situation.

Ambassador Szunyog, speaking of dialogue, has said there is some kind of wording on dialogue.

“existing the clear position of EU institutions. It is that the path or integration of Kosovo and Serbia depends on agreements for full normalisation of relations, and that is extremely clear. So this text reflects that we have a reconciliation in the sense of road to normalisation as of February. Then the Ohrid annex from March of this year and now we talk about implementation. The report is very clear. Unfortunately neither Serbia nor Kosovo have started to implement it”, Ambassador Szunyog has declared.

Szunyog has said that unfortunately the world is at a challenging time because of the war in Ukraine, and then the war in Gaza and the serious geopolitical situation, and, according to him, enlargement is one of the main tools of the EU, to deal with this challenging environment.

We live in a period where we have war. In Europe Russian aggression against Ukraine, but we also have a serious conflict in Gaza. We also have an increased race among the greatest powers, and this is reflected in this little expansion. The European Union carries a clear signal that the European Union, which generally wants to be political, geopolitical union. A power that can expand the area of stability, prosperity, peace and regions that are directly neighbouring the EU, which are the Western Balkans, but also Eastern Europe”, he stressed.

Speaking of Kosovo's EU candidate status, Szunyog has said that this proposal will be discussed in the working bodies of the European Union, then in November and December it will be introduced on the agenda of the Council of Ministers and in mid-December, even in the European Council agenda.

The “ahead of the European Union Council will also be the summit between the EU and the Western Balkans. So this proposal could also expand, but I would say that the issue of candidate status, but also steps on this path of a country towards the European Union depend on the attitude of member states. The EU's position is that all steps must be agreed on by all member states with a unanimous”, he stressed. / RTK
