Szunyog: Kosovo to do more in fighting crime, corruption

Szunyog has been criticised for failing to co-operate among parties in the work of the Parliament.

Among other things, he says some recommendations last year have not improved even this year.

Part of the EU ambassador's speech to Kosovo:

Disco-operation between parties and differences between the majority continues to challenge the work of the Assembly. Last year's recommendations on reform and public administration have not been implemented enough. As Kosovo continues to be in early stages of development, the judicial system must also continue to empower tools by defending integrity to judicial accountability and efficiency in general.

The report recommends that Kosovo make more efforts to implement anti-corruption legislation that has recently been adopted and in terms of organised crime, Kosovo needs to take more active action and also work on confiscating illegal assets. We know that monitoring capacity has improved. The economy has demonstrated stability in recent crises, but still there is a need to address some long-term structural challenges.

Let me stress that both Kosovo and Serbia have yet to implement obligations that have emerged from the agreement that is binding on the road to the EU.

Hopefully, Kosovo's efforts for reform progress towards EU membership. This year we can see that there has been progress in this area, but there are still areas that must continue to work”, Ambassador Szunyog said. /Periscopi/
