The prosecution disclosed that the allegations were based on a long investigation led by the Special Prosecutor and implemented by Kosovo Customs and the Police Inspectorate, since a police official has been involved under investigation.
Authorities announced that material evidence has been seized during the raids to support the investigative procedure, such as 20 official customs diplomats, ten phones and four sim cards, a three-strikes and nine rounds and 16 pieces of informal ammunition.
Kosovo Customs Director Agron Llugaliu has said it is not only about controls in the northern part of the country, but at 11 different locations on Kosovo territory, where these officials have been acting.
“, based on evidence collected by the secret investigation measures, is considered to have done works classified as abuse of official duty and corruption for some officials. It's not that much is related to smuggling, more related to misuse of official duty during the implementation of legal authorizations, have made different concessions for personal benefits”, he said.
This is not the first time authorities are conducting action in Kosovo Customs to combat criminal acts related to bribery and abuse of official office.
In March 2022 dozens of police and customs were arrested under suspicion of bribery and misuse of official duty. The event then was conducted in Gjakova and Prizren, and arrested officials were suspected of participating in hundreds of bribery activities at the Qafe Prush and Qafe Morina border points, linking Kosovo and Albania.
Otherwise, in Kosovo's Serb-run north, authorities in recent years have closed several illegal roads that have been used to contract goods from Serbia.
