US Ambassador to Kosovo Jeff Hovenier has spoken about the security situation in Kosovo, following warnings of possible destabilisation in the Balkans.
First US in Kosovo said he sleeps quietly knowing that in Kosovo are American Army troops and mission NATO, KFOR.
Hovenier in T7 said international troops in Kosovo are capable of facing any threat to security that may appear.
We are closely following a string of things that can be a source of instability in the region. And of course, we often spoke publicly when we were concerned about specific military delocation around the border area. And this continues to be something we follow closely. But I would also say that one of the ways we express how seriously we take this is our long-term commitment to the security of Kosovo, which is better expressed through the KFOR mission and the US participation in it. We believe NATO is the most successful military alliance in human history. This is a very, very strong statement, but I stand behind it. And the fact that you have a NATO mission in Kosovo, responsible for providing a safe and secure environment and enabling freedom of movement is indication, very, very powerful commitment of our international community to Kosovo's security. The fact that you have several hundred American soldiers as part of this mission in leading roles that support this is another reflection of how seriously the United States takes this. So, I still sleep quite comfortable at night knowing that NATO is there, knowing that there are American soldiers in NATO and knowing they are capable of facing any threat to security that may appear. ”, he said.
