At the centre of Kosovo Police Special Units in Mitrovica “Enver Zymberi”, under the auspices of Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani, this year has been organised “Thanksgiving Day”, or as the “Darka of Lama” is otherwise known. But, police interventional elite units (NJSI) have boycotted organisation due to discontent.
One of the holidays traditionally organised by Kosovo institutions since 2002, this year has been boycotted by members of the Special Intervention Unit, although President Osmani has laid down the “File of Lama” right at the police camp in support for the Kosovo Police.
Albanian Post sources within the Kosovo Police say the reason for this year's boycott of organisation has been made precisely on the grounds that central authorities have failed to meet their demands, especially after events in the northern part of the country inhabited mainly by ethnic Serbs.
Given the traditional importance of this holiday, besides local politicians, representatives of diplomatic missions in Kosovo and many other intellectuals are usually invited to this traditional event. But this year, an organisation aimed primarily at honouring the Kosovo Police has not gone according to plans.
